In this Youtube tutorial, we are going to show you how to hide the number of subscribers of your YouTube channel from regular viewers.

Without further ado, let’s dive in.

Can you hide subscriber count on YouTube?

Yes, if you don’t want to show how many people are subscribed to your YouTube channel, you can hide the subscriber count of your YouTube channel.

The process we show below will only hide the subscriber count from the regular visitors, you can still analyze your Subscriber growth in the Analytics section of YouTube studio.

How to hide YouTube subscriber count?

Here is how to hide the subscriber count from your YouTube channel:

  1. Open YouTube Studio of the channel
  2. First, click on ‘Settings’
  3. Select ‘Channel’ and then ‘Advanced settings’.
  4. Under “Subscriber count,” uncheck “Display the number of people subscribed to my channel.”
  5. Click Save.

Now when you open any of your videos, the subscriber count should be hidden from the Watch page.

And even if someone visits your YouTube channel page, they won’t be able to see the number of subscribers your YouTube channel has.

Why Should you hide YouTube subscriber count?

There are many reasons why it can make sense to hide the subscriber count on your YouTube channel.

Here are the most common reasons:

  1. You don’t want to share this information with your YouTube competitors
  2. People might distrust YouTube channels that have very few subscribers and they might be more likely to leave the video
  3. People are less likely to subscribe for a small YouTube channel
  4. Other personal reasons

Measure if this ‘hidden YT subscriber count’ strategy is working

As I have mentioned above, a very low YouTube subscriber number might set back the growth potential of your YouTube channel.

However, this is just a theory, so make sure to test these hypotheses using your own YouTube channel.

All you have to do is to hide the YouTube subscriber count on your channel for a week or month (depending on the number of views you get on average),

Once you get statistically significant data with the subscriber count hidden, you analyze whether you manage to increase the watch hours or the subscription rate when you hide the subscriber count of your YouTube channel.

If it doesn’t have any effect or has a negative effect on your YouTube channel, you can always revert back and show the subscriber count on your channel again.

Can’t hide YouTube subscriber count

You have to be a YouTube channel Manager to be able to hide the Subscriber count from the YouTube channel.

So make sure that you have the necessary YouTube channel permissions, or ask the YouTube channel manager to do the steps we have shown above.

In any other cases, you should be able to hide the Subscriber count by following the process we have laid out above.

How to Unhide YouTube Channel Subscriber Count?

If for some reason, you want to show your subscriber count to the regular viewers again, you can easily do that. We have  a separate tutorial on it:

  1. Open YouTube Studio of the channel
  2. First, click on ‘Settings’
  3. Select ‘Channel’ and then ‘Advanced settings’.
  4. Under “Subscriber count,” check “Display the number of people subscribed to my channel.”
  5. Click Save.

How to See Hidden Subscriber Count on YouTube?

Unfortunately, if you bump into a channel that hides the subscriber count from regular YouTube viewers, you won’t be able to see how many subscribers they have until they don’t unhide the count.

Even if you use a 3rd party YouTube statistics service, like SocialBlade, they rely on the YouTube Data API but still can’t show any subscriber statistics related to a channel that has decided to hide its subscriber count.
