If you have started a Facebook ad campaign with a daily budget, it means the campaign will run until you don’t turn off the Facebook ad campaign.
In this Facebook ads tutorial, we are going to show you two ways how to turn off Facebook ads campaigns and everything that is related to this.
Without further ado, let’s get into it.
What happens when I turn off a Facebook ad, ad set or campaign?
When you turn off a Facebook ad, ad set, or campaign, the delivery of that ad, ad set, or campaign will be stopped and the ad won’t be actively shown until you don’t turn the ad back on.
You can leave a Facebook ad turned off forever, but you will always be able to turn it back on if you have set up the Facebook ad campaign with a daily budget.
One thing to note: when you turn off a Facebook ad campaign, all ad sets and ads of that campaign will be turned off as well. When you turn off a Facebook ad set, all the ads in the ad sets will be turned off. When you turn off an ad, all the other not turned off ads of that campaign will remain active.
Turning off vs deleting Facebook Ads
It is important to understand the difference between turning off and deleting or canceling Facebook Ads.
When you cancel Facebook ads, the ads won’t just stop delivering, they will be deleted forever. So you can’t turn them back on whereas a turned-off campaign can be turned back on any time you want.
When you should turn off a Facebook ad, ad set, or campaign?
There are two major cases when you would want to turn off a Facebook ad, ad set, or campaign.
1. When the Facebook ad is no longer relevant
So if you have a Black Friday sale, you obviously don’t want to run the campaign when the offer you are promoting is no longer active.
In this case, you can either create a campaign with a lifetime budget or turn off the campaign when the sale or the offer ended.
2. When the performance dipped
The second reason why you might want to turn off a Facebook ad campaign is more related to the optimization of Facebook ads.
One of the most important things you have to do as a Facebook advertiser is to monitor the performance of your Facebook ads campaigns. If an ad, an ad set or a campaign is not performing the way you want it to perform, you can just simply turn it off for the day but even for a week.
When you only turn off a Facebook ad or campaign, you can turn it back on any time you want.
3 ways to turn off Facebook Ads
You have basically three ways to turn off a Facebook ad, ad set or a campaign.
The first one is when you specify a lifetime budget and the end date for the Facebook campaign, and when the date and time comes, the Facebook ad campaign and its ad sets and ads will be turned off automatically.
However, when you specify a daily budget, the campaign would never stop if you don’t turn it off. You can turn off a campaign manually or automatically by using Facebook automated ad rules.
In this tutorial, we will show you the manual way of turning off Facebook ads and campaigns.

Can’t turn off Facebook ads
There is usually one reason why you can’t turn off a Facebook ad, campaign or ad set.
It is related to your access level in the Facebook Ad Account. If you don’t see the option to turn off Facebook ads, it probably means you only have view-only access in the Facebook ad account.
We recommend contacting the admin of the Facebook ad account and asking him or her to grant you edit access to the FB ad account.
How to see turned-off Facebook ads?
If you want to see all your turned off Facebook campaigns:
- Open the Facebook ads manager
- Click into the Filter area
- Select ‘Delivery’
- Select Campaign, Ad Set or Ad Delivery.
- Select ‘Off’
- Click ‘Apply’.
By the way, all turned-off Facebook campaigns and ads can be easily recognized by just checking the Facebook Ads Manager. The toggle is always off for turned-off campaigns and ads.
