What are Facebook Group Announcements?
Facebook announcements is a Facebook group feature that lets you inform Facebook Group members about the most important updates that they should know about.
Facebook has introduced the Facebook Group announcement feature in 2018 so Facebook group admins and moderators can better communicate with Facebook group members.
Previously you could only pin one Facebook post to the top of the FB group feed. With the introduction of Facebook announcements, now you have a dedicated place for all your important updates and now you can have up to 50 announcements at once.
How to make a Facebook group post Announcement?
If you want to mark a Facebook post as an announcement here is what you have to do:
- Open up the Facebook group.
- Go to the post that you want to make an announcement
- Click on the three dots at the top of the right corner.
- You will see the option ‘Mark as announcement’
- Click on it and your FB group post will be marked as an announcement.
Now, your Facebook post has been marked as an announcement. (You might need to refresh the page, to see it under the Announcements tab.)
If a member has notifications enabled for this Facebook group, then he will also get a notification that a new announcement has been made in the Facebook group.
All of your Facebook post announcements will now be available under the Announcement tab.
How to remove a Facebook group announcement?
If you no longer need to have a post marked as an announcement, you can remove it. All you have to do is:
- Search for the specific announcement you want to remove under the Announcements tab
- Click on the three dots.
- Then select the ‘Remove Announcement’ option.
Facebook Pinned post vs Facebook announcements
One of the benefits of making a Facebook group post as an announcement is then you can pin the Facebook group post to the top of the group feed. You can find more info about this in this blog post:
The main difference between a pinned post and an announcement is that only Facebook announcements can be pinned but not every Facebook announcements have to be pinned.

How to add an announcement tab to a Facebook group?
You don’t have to add the announcement tab separately to your Facebook group. When you first mark a Facebook group post as an announcement, the Announcement tab in the Facebook group will be automatically created.
Can’t mark a Facebook group post as an announcement?
If you can’t mark a Facebook group post as an announcement, check your access level/role in the FB group. Only admins and moderators are able to mark a group post as an announcement.
