Pausing vs deleting a Facebook group
Before showing the actual step-by-step process of pausing a Facebook group, let’s clarify the difference between deleting Facebook groups and pausing Facebook groups.
So if you delete a Facebook group it is an irreversible action that you can’t really take back. All Facebook group members, content, previous posts will be deleted.
On the other hand, pausing a Facebook group can be a temporary action. You can resume the paused Facebook group any time you want.
The main things that will change when you pause a Facebook group:
- people won’t be able to join the Facebook group
- members won’t be able to post or comment on any posts.
- even admins won’t be able to post in the FB group.
However, no members or content will be deleted and people can still see all this content while the Facebook group is paused. And you can unpause the Facebook group any time you wish to do so.

How to pause a Facebook group?
Here is how to pause a Facebook group:
- Open the Facebook group
- Go to the home page of the FB group
- Click on the three dots under the cover photo
- Click on ‘Pause group’
- First, you have to select a reason for pausing the group.
- Then click on ‘Continue’. Then ‘Continue’ again.
- Then you can optionally add an announcement why you are pausing the group.
- You can also optionally set a time when you want to automatically resume the group.
- Click on ‘Pause group’

What happens when you pause a Facebook group?
As we mentioned when you pause a group, the group members won’t be able to use the Facebook group until it is resumed back.
However, the members of the FB group are still able to see their and other people’s posts and comments without restrictions.
And group admins and moderators can still remove comments or block members and also approve member requests which were initiated before the group was paused.

How to resume a Facebook group?
As pausing a Facebook group is always a temporary thing, you can resume the Facebook group if you wish to do so.
Here is how to resume a Facebook group:
- Open the Facebook group
- On the home page, click on the ‘Resume’ button under the cover photo.
- Confirm that you want to resume the Facebook group.
Now, your Facebook group is back to normal, people can join and start posting and commenting again.
