If we put resources into producing content on social media platforms, our goal is presumably to get as much reach as possible for our posts. But a good question is what is the best time to post on social media if you want your posts to reach as many people as possible.

To answer this question, we’ll first share some general advice and then we’ll look at each of the main social platforms,:

  • What is the best time to post on Facebook and Instagram?
  • What is the best time to post on TikTok?
  • What is the best time to post on LinkedIn?
  • How to decide when to post on social media?

At the very beginning of the article, I even go around the question of whether it makes sense to post on social media on its own without running any ads.

If you prefer a video tutorial instead on when is the best to post on social media, check out this one:

Is social media activity (e.g. Facebook) even worthwhile without advertising?

While it has become increasingly difficult to generate organic traffic from social media platforms in recent years, producing content on social media can still be a valid strategy.

On the one hand, some platforms still provide good organic reach, so it can be worth investing the necessary time and human resources to social.

On the other hand, although we usually do not get significant website traffic organically, we should not forget that this little traffic is given to us for free by the social media platform.

Thirdly, even if we can’t drive a lot of social traffic to the website, we can build user trust and brand awareness through an active social media presence.

So overall, it is worth being active on social media. If you don’t have the resources, we would perhaps suggest focusing on one platform at a time. This can be chosen based on which one suits us best or where our target audience is most active.

What is the best time to post on social media?

If you’ve read the above, or decided anyway that it’s worth being active on one or a few social media platforms , you may wonder when to post to get the most exposure.

To answer this, a little explanation is needed.

More than 95% of revenue on all social media platforms comes from advertising (LinkedIn is perhaps the only exception). The easiest way for tech companies to get more ad revenue is to increase the number of ad impressions. To do this, they need their users to spend as much time as possible on the platform.

And the common strategy of social media companies is to get users to spend more time on a platform. To spend more time, users need to engage with the content which means they want users to comment, like and share posts.

This means that if we want to maximize the reach of our social media posts, we need to post at times when it is most likely that our followers not only to see our posts but also are likely to engage with them.

Once a post has achieved good engagement numbers among our followers, the platform’s algorithm will push the post out to people who are not directly connected to us (they don’t follow or like our page), which is the way how social media posts can go truly viral.

What is the best time to post on Facebook and Instagram?

We have written separate articles on what is the best time to post on Facebook and Instagram.

In both articles, I explain three ways to determine which days and times are the most ideal for posting on these platforms.

You can read these articles here:

That said, it’s worth noting that for Insta and Facebook, it’s best to use Facebook ads if you want to reach a large number of people.

When should you post on Linkedin?

If you want to reach the most relevant B2B audiences without advertising, there is no better platform than LinkedIn.

Moreover, since the platform is not so crowded and full of ads, it is still possible to achieve high organic reach, which is not only great for building your personal brand, but also for promoting your products and services.

There have also been social media studies looking at when is the best time to post on Linkedin in order to have the highest post reach.

According to Sproutsocial’s research, in general, mid-week is the best time to share Linkedin posts. Specifically, Wednesday between 8-10 am and around noon, Thursday between 9 am and 1-2 pm, and Friday between 9 am and noon are the absolute best times to share Linkedin posts.

mikor posztoljunk Linkedinre

Amennyiben nem szeretnénk, hogy a Linkedin posztjaink eltűnjenek a süllyesztőben, akkor tartózkodjunk a hétvégi, de különösen a vasárnapi posztolástól.

After all, the results of the research confirmed what we already assumed. LinkedIn is mostly used at work, outside of working hours, in the evenings, and on the weekends it is not used as much.

It is perhaps also worth noting that Monday is not a strong day either, as although it is a working day, people seem to be more inclined to deal with work at the beginning of the week than to waste time on LinkedIn.

What is the best time to post on TikTok?

Besides LinkedIn, TikTok is currently the platform where our posts can go viral without advertising and reach a lot of people. It’s especially worth investing resources and time if your business is targeting Gen Z and millennials.

Research has already been done to find out when it makes the most sense to publish our short videos on TikTok. As we have seen, there is a clear pattern on LinkedIn that it makes sense to post during the ‘slower’ hours of the working day, we do not see a clear pattern on TikTok.

According to research from Influencer Marketing Hub, the following times are the most ideal to post if you want to achieve the best reach on TikTok.

mikor posztolj TikTokra

In fact, the conclusion that can be drawn from this TikTok research is that it is practically completely random when a TikTok video can achieve good reach. So let’s post on TikTok when we feel our TikTok followers are most likely to use the app.

Actually, since TikTok is not a crowded platform yet, posting at the most ideal time is not that important. If you post exceptionally good content, the TikTok algorithm will make sure that your post reaches a lot of relevant people.

You can see more TikTok statistics here.

When should you post on Twitter, Snapchat, Pinterest, etc?

Although there are separate researches for these platforms, this post will not summarize researches about them.

However, if you are on any of these other social media platform, it is definitely worth looking for researches on it, which shows when users of the platform are most active.

But even if you can’t find such research, all of these platforms usually provide information on when each of our posts was posted and what their reach and engagement numbers were.

If you study these reports for a few minutes, you can usually discover patterns that will show you what is the best time to post on a social media platform to achieve the highest reach and engagement.
