At the end of this tutorial, we are also going to answer some of the frequently asked questions related to the Facebook Page URL.
Can’t change the Facebook Page URL
There are multiple reasons why you might not be able to change your Facebook page. First, if your Facebook doesn’t have 24 likes yet, then you won’t be able to add a custom URL to the Facebook page.
You have to also have at least 1 Facebook post on a Facebook page to be able to change the Facebook page URL. If you don’t comply with this or with the previous condition, Facebook won’t allow you to change the Facebook Page URL and the Username by showing you the following message: ‘This Page isn’t eligible to have a username.’
As we said, as Facebook URLs are unique, you have to find a Facebook URL that hasn’t been claimed yet by another Facebook page. If you don’t choose an eligible Facebook page username, Facebook will let you know with the following warning: “This username isn’t available. Please enter a username that isn’t already taken.”
There are also further rules related to the Facebook page username and URL that you have to keep in mind. We have covered these rules in our article about Facebook page usernames.
What is my Facebook page URL?
You can easily check your current Facebook page URL in the browser address bar. All you have to do is to open Facebook.com, then navigate to your Facebook page and have a look at the browser’s address bar at the top of the page:
People can use this URL to link to your Facebook page, so it is important to have a nice custom URL. When you create a new Facebook page, Facebook will auto-generate you a unique URL based on your Facebook page name that is unique, so it will likely contain random numbers added to the Facebook name as you can see in this example.
As this is more difficult to remember, you have the option to change this default Facebook page URL to a custom URL as we will show it down below.
Facebook page URL vs Page page username vs Facebook page name
Before we would continue with the Facebook Page URL topic and show you how to change your Facebook page ULR, I just want to clarify the important distinction between the Facebook page URL, Page page username and Facebook page name.
So we have already defined the Facebook page URL as it is the unique web address of your Facebook business page.
Facebook page URL is related to the Facebook page username as once you create a Facebook page username it will be used as the URL of your Facebook page. For example, if you created the FB username test12345 then your Facebook page URL will be facebook.com/test12345.
The FB page username can be found under your Page title with an @ symbol before it. For more information about Facebook page username and how you can create it if you haven’t done so, check out this tutorial about Facebook page username.
The Facebook page name has nothing to do with the Facebook Page URL or the username. This is basically the name people can see when you post on Facebook and the title you can see when you open a Facebook page:
Whereas the Facebook page username has to be unique so people can use it to link the Facebook page, the Facebook page doesn’t have to be unique. To get more information about the Facebook page name and how you can change it, read this tutorial:
