What are Facebook Group Topics vs Facebook Group Hashtags?

They are pretty much the same thing. When you add a keyword or phrase as a hashtag or tag to a Facebook group post, the post will get under that specific Facebook group topic.

People can then click on that hashtag to find Facebook group posts where this topic or hashtag has also been added to the posts. Admins can pin certain Facebook group topics and organize important group topics so people can find valuable information easier.

How to create Facebook group topics?

Every Facebook group member can add topics/hashtags to their Facebook group posts.

Here is how to add a topic to your Facebook group posts:

1. Open the Facebook group.
2. Click into the ‘What’s on your mind’ field.
3. Add your posts
4. To add a topic, add the hashtag sign, then the keyword/phrase like so: #example
5. Facebook will autosuggest topics and show you how many posts have been created with this topic.
6. You can add up to 30 topics/hashtags to a Facebook group post.
7. Click on ‘Post’.

As an admin or as a Facebook group moderator you should encourage people to add hashtags to their posts so people can find group posts even after a long time, so no repetitive posts are created.

How to add topics to Facebook group posts?

Here is how to add topics to a Facebook group post:

1. Open the Facebook group
2. Search for the Facebook group posts you want to add topics to.
3. Click on the three dots.
4. Select ‘Edit post topics’
5. Add the Facebook group topics you find important
6. Click on ‘Save’

Now, when you click on the hashtags you have added to this group post, this post should also show up in the list of Facebook group posts.

How to pin a Facebook group topic?

As an admin you can pin the most important Facebook group tags as pinned topics:

1. Open the Facebook group.
2. Click on ‘Topics’ from the tab list.
3. Select the topic and click on the three dots.
4. Select ‘Pin topic’.

Now, this pinned topic will show up when people click on the Topics tab in the group.

How to hide a Facebook group topic?

If you don’t want a Facebook group hashtag to show up in the topic tab, you can also hide the group topic if you are a group admin:

1. Open the Facebook group
2. Click on ‘Topics’ from the tab list.
3. Select the hashtag you want to hide.
4. Click on the three dots.
5. Select ‘Hide topic’.

Facebook group topics not showing up

You should be able to see a Facebook group topic tab in the tab list of your Facebook group. You might have to change to All topics to see the topic, as by default only pinned topics might show up in the Facebook group topic list.

If you don’t see a certain Facebook group topic, it is possible that the admin has hidden this Facebook group tag from the topic list.
